The Maine Council for English Language Arts (MCELA) is a collaborative community that provides Maine teachers of English language arts with opportunities to reflect upon and improve their teaching practices.  Its activities include working to:
  • support the learning and teaching of literacy across the content areas in Maine schools,
  • promote professional practices for the education and preparation of teachers of English language arts,
  • provide opportunities for teacher development,
  • contribute to the development and implementation of local and state policy, and 
  • improve the quality of English language arts learning and teaching in Maine schools.
