LENS is a new initiative designed to help ELA teachers across Maine. MCELA has been thinking about this present moment from a variety of angles, and we have planned an inquiry series designed to offer resources to help ELA teachers engage with topics, issues, and strategies while working through discussion/reflection protocols.
Our hope is that these conversations will help us embody what it means to be lifelong learners who continue to enhance our practice in ways that will benefit our students and our school communities. You and your group can also earn contact hours for engaging with these materials and in these conversations. Strategies for using these materials:
- Select a topic from the links below.
- Set a day and time for your group to meet–during lunch, before school, or after school. If you start with a group of 2, that’s great! If 20 folks at your school are interested now, even better! The goal is to grow our work.
- Send the primary article to your group. You could even send it to a broader group of your colleagues–maybe it will pique someone’s interest!
- Prepare yourself to facilitate by reading through the Discussion Protocol. If you have a large group, maybe ask a colleague to help facilitate.
- Work to co-create some community agreements. You could use our agreements as a model, if you like.
- Need contact hours? You can send the names and emails of those who participated an d, and we'll send each an email with a 1 hour contact hours certificate.
